This Week In Non-House Hugh Laurie: I Need Your Help To Stop Talking About Hugh Laurie

Today's post marks the 21st installment of "This Week in Non-House Hugh Laurie," and I think it's officially run it's course. I've been getting tired of talking about the guy and, as it turns out, I think you are as well. But I do like the idea of exploring the other work of people who are primarily known for one role.

So I'm going to ask for your help to find out who to talk about next. Basically, we're looking for someone who almost everybody associates with one character (i.e. Kiefer Sutherland is now Jack Bauer) but who also has a potentially extensive collection of other work that nobody seems to talk about anymore. If you know of anyone that fits in that category shoot me a line in the comments section. I will look to cut down each person's coverage to eight weeks or less so the more I get the better. I'll be looking to start as early as next Monday if I get a good idea for someone to use.

As for Mr. Laurie, I know it's time to move on but I would be remiss if I didn't at least acknowledge what is probably my favorite movie that he appears in, Monsters vs. Aliens. Honestly, I think I like it more for Seth Rogen's B.O.B. than anything, else but Laurie's Dr. Cockroach, Ph. D. definitely has his moments. So I leave you with 11 seconds of Hugh Laurie as a cockroach.

...and here's a montage of B.O.B. Because he is awesome.

  1. Nice post! As you probably know, Hugh Laurie is English (so am I) and he is actually a very famous comedian over here. He starred in a wicked (and very funny) comedy series called 'Blackadder'. And that is what he is famous for here. So it was really weird seeing him in a serious US drama.

I am loving your blog dahlink!

  2. Anonymous--Good one. But are we seeing his big role as Airplane! or The Naked Gun?

Annie--Glad you're enjoying the blog! Actually I'm a huge Blackadder fan. I did a few posts on Laurie's work on that show a while back. Great show.

  4. Anonymous here again - I suggested him with the Naked Gun series in mind. Though there's no doubt people remember him in the Airplane role, it's the Frank Drebin character I think is most associated with him these days.

  5. How about Keanu Reeves--even when he's not the Matrix guy he's still just plain old Keanu Reeves.

Regarding Hugh Laurie--I'm still laughing about that electric fence scene in that Stalin movie!

  6. Anonymous here again - to add to Tom's comment above, regarding Keanu Reeves - even when he's playing Shakespeare, he's plain old Keanu Reeves!

  7. If you ever need another person besides the three you currently are considering...I think Kevin Spacey would be another unique person to follow.

BTW I'm a different Anonymous than the one that suggested Leslie Nielsen, who was a good choice. Its been a while since I've been here to read. Sorry.

  8. Thanks for the Kevin Spacey suggestion, Anonymous. For which character would you say he's been pigeonholed?

  9. In ways I always see him as the mysterious and evil character he played in 'Seven' or the "Usual Suspects". He seems to play the offbeat type character even though he is an actor in a wide range of movies. Probably not what you wanted, but that's why I mentioned him.
